In the context where traditional rice production faces numerous challenges, the integrated technical package has become an effective solution to reduce input costs and increase profitability in the rice production industry in Lao. This technical package, transferred by the South Central Agricultural Science and Technology Institute (ASISOV), has been successfully applied in various regions of the country, particularly in Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces.

Applying Mechanization To Save Costs.

One of the highlights of the integrated technical package is the application of mechanization from the production stage to harvesting. This involves the use of machinery, technology, and automation processes in planting, care, harvesting, and processing of agricultural products. Thanks to this approach, farmers have reduced input costs and increased production efficiency. In the South Central Coast region, approximately 90% of the area uses mechanization for land preparation and irrigation, along with over 80% of the rice harvested by machines. This has reduced labor and time in the production process.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho, Head of the Technology Transfer and Agricultural Promotion Department (under ASISOV), the application of the integrated technical package has brought significant benefits. Specifically, reducing seed and balanced fertilizer usage has helped farmers reduce nitrogen fertilizer by 22% to 34.5%. Total production costs have also decreased by 10% to 12%, while economic efficiency has increased by 38% compared to traditional methods. Rice yields have increased by an average of 7%, and reducing CO2 emissions has contributed to environmental protection. Farmers using new rice varieties and advanced technical measures, such as proper irrigation and integrated pest management, have achieved significant results in increasing yields and income.

Enhancing Economic Efficiency For Farmers.

Real-world results have proven the economic efficiency of applying the integrated technical package in rice production. For models using advanced rice cultivation techniques, net profits per hectare have reached over 24.6 million Lao Kip, an increase of over 20% compared to traditional methods. Using new rice varieties and applying integrated intensification techniques has increased productivity and income for farmers. It has generated higher net profits and created favorable conditions for expanding this production model to many other farmers.

Expanding The Model For High Efficiency.

With the resounding success ASISOV has achieved in applying the integrated technical package to rice production, ASISOV suggests expanding this model to other regions in Binh Dinh province and neighboring areas. ASISOV’s goal is to provide farmers with access to a new, modern, and sustainable method of production through comprehensive application of integrated technical cultivation.

This model is not just about technology transfer but also about synchronizing integrated cultivation technical solutions into the rice production process of farmers. ASISOV hopes that this will improve productivity in rice production, reduce labor, and, especially, bring higher economic efficiency to them.

The integrated technical package has demonstrated that applying science and technology to rice production can bring significant benefits to farmers, the environment, and the agricultural industry as a whole. Businesses play a crucial role in promoting the development of this industry and contributing to increasing the income and quality of life for farmers in Lao.

With these opportunities, businesses can capitalize on and innovate, along with research institutions and local governments, to shape a bright future for rice production and enhance the sustainability of agriculture in Lao.
